The PYP Musical Theatre lunchtime club rehearsed hard for their performance Go for Gold. After learning stage-craft, voice expression, body language acting and prop making, the students put on an amazing performance.
The play featured a promising young female athlete, Suzie, who wanted to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. But, she was going to give-up due to problems, like getting a sponsorship deal. Her Trainer, Phil, took her back in time to Ancient Greece to help her discover the original Olympic Spirit – But even there, the Olympics are in trouble, as Hades encouraged the Spartans to fight the Athenians. Will Zeus and Milo be able to sort things out in time?
The show featured catchy songs, fun jokes and dazzling costumes. But the messages of resilience, friendship and equal opportunities for girls were very powerful. Performing arts is a great avenue to build our students’ communication skills, self-confidence and teamwork.
